Service adjustments 2019

We’ve made some adjustments to train and bus services, including more services to support the integration of Sydney Metro into the wider public transport network.

The key adjustments introduced on 28 April included more services along the T1 North Shore Line, and renaming the T1 Northern Line to the T9 Northern Line. Some bus routes in the Upper North Shore area were also adjusted to better connect with train services, additional services added in other areas and some bus routes across Sydney renumbered.

When Sydney Metro opens 26 May, Station Link buses will end and bus routes in the North West area will be adjusted to provide easy access to metro stations. Bus services travelling along the M2 to/from the City remain unchanged during this first stage. Further adjustments are planned for the second half of 2019. This will allow us to review Opal data and travel patterns so that we can make adjustments where they are needed.

These adjustments mean you may need to change the way you travel to get to your destination quickly and comfortably.

Plan your new trip to see how these changes might affect you.

Train adjustments from 28 April

  • Additional capacity on the T1 North Shore Line with a train every three minutes in the busiest period of the morning peak from Gordon via Chatswood to the City. Services during all other time periods will be aligned to Sydney Metro frequencies
  • Wollstonecraft, Waverton and Artarmon will gain eight extra services between 3pm and 6pm, while Chatswood and St Leonards have four more trains to catch during the same period
  • Hornsby, Warrawee, Turramurra, Pymble and Gordon gain more morning peak hour services to the City
  • Double the number of services from the CBD for Pymble, Warrawee and Wahroonga during the afternoon peak, with a train on average every seven to eight minutes
  • Service frequencies also double during the afternoon peak at Mount Colah and Mount Kuring-gai, with a train on average every 15 minutes
  • Berowra Station gains an extra two trains during the afternoon peak hour, meaning a train on average every eight to nine minutes from Sydney CBD
  • At least double the service frequencies from the CBD between 10pm and midnight for all stations between Gordon and Roseville
  • Central Coast and Newcastle Line services travelling via the North Shore from the Sydney CBD no longer stop at Asquith in the afternoon peak hour. If you need to travel from Asquith to Central Coast destinations such as Cowan, Hawkesbury River, Wondabyne, Woy Woy, Gosford, Narara, Niagara Park, Lisarow, Ourimbah, Tuggerah and Wyong during this time you will need to change at Hornsby or Berowra
  • Journey times for the majority of rail trips on the T1 North Shore Line from April remain the same or similar to today
  • 30 additional services to accommodate changes on the T1 North Shore Line
  • These include three extra express services from the CBD towards Western Sydney each weekday morning, including two operating in the morning peak hour
  • This means 16 T1 Western Line trains running from Central to Parramatta during the morning peak hour, or a train on average every three to four minutes
  • The two additional morning peak hour services will stop at Redfern, Strathfield, Parramatta, Blacktown, Marayong, Quakers Hill and Schofields. The third additional service will end at Blacktown
  • Three additional express services starting from Blacktown will also operate each weekday afternoon, stopping at Parramatta, Strathfield, Redfern and Central
  • Minor adjustments to two late night Friday services to accommodate the changes on the T1 North Shore Line
  • The existing 00:18 and 00.48 services starting from Central and stopping at Redfern, Burwood and Strathfield, are extended to Epping and will be renamed as T9 Northern Line services
  • The new stopping pattern is Central, Redfern, Burwood, Strathfield, North Strathfield, Concord West, Rhodes, Meadowbank, West Ryde, Denistone, Eastwood and Epping
  • Minor adjustments to departure and arrival times for some T5 Cumberland Line services to accommodate the changes on the T1 North Shore Line
  • The T1 Northern Line is being renamed the T9 Northern Line to make it more easily identified from other T1 services by the different number and different colour
  • The T9 Northern Line takes a path from Hornsby to Gordon via Epping, Strathfield and the City
  • There are some minor adjustments to accommodate the changes on the T1 North Shore Line, including the addition of one early morning service each day starting at Central stopping at Redfern, Burwood, Strathfield, Rhodes, West Ryde, Eastwood and Epping
  • There are also two more late night services on Fridays from the City
  • The existing T2 Inner West and Leppington 00:18 and 00:48 services starting from Central and stopping at Redfern, Burwood and Strathfield, are extended to North Strathfield, Concord West, Rhodes, Meadowbank, West Ryde, Denistone, Eastwood and Epping.
As a consequence, these two services will be renamed as T9 Northern Line services
  • If you use the Metro North West Line and change at Epping for existing rail services you will be able to make quick connections.
For example, in peak periods, trains will run every five to six minutes on average allowing you to just turn up and go
  • Minor adjustments to departure and arrival times for some Blue Mountains Line services to accommodate the changes we are making on the T1 North Shore Line
  • The 16:05 Sydney to Gosford service is extended to stop at Wyong and all stations in between, while the 16:20 Sydney to Newcastle service makes additional stops at Warnervale and Wyee
  • Wondabyne is added as a stop on the 19:45 Newcastle to Central service
  • Central Coast and Newcastle Line services travelling from the Sydney CBD no longer stop at Asquith in the afternoon peak hour
  • If you are travelling to Asquith from the City, there remains the same number of services via the T1 North Shore Line, with a train every 15 minutes. These services are no more than two minutes longer than current Central Coast and Newcastle Line services
  • These changes mirror what’s available in the morning peak hour, thus providing a simpler and more consistent service offering if you are travelling to or from Asquith
  • If you want to travel from Asquith to Central Coast destinations such as Cowan, Hawkesbury River, Wondabyne, Woy Woy, Gosford, Narara, Niagara Park, Lisarow, Ourimbah, Tuggerah and Wyong during this time you will need to change at Hornsby or Berowra
  • Some journeys may be slightly longer but these changes are essential to building a more reliable network for the future
  • Services on the Hunter Line will be adjusted to provide better weekday connections between Newcastle and Dungog.
  • There will be minor adjustments to service times on the North Coast Line.
